Updating bios in windows
Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.
Adding a new hard drive , video card and DVD drive will also show up in the bios and checking it to see if the device registered with the bios is a way to confirm it's compatible. It is not necessary to update the bios simply because a newer one is available, you should only update the bios if there is a need to do so.
Updating the bios has become a whole lot easier then it was even 5 years ago.
You can now even update the bios from Windows and there is no need to go into the bios and use the updater provided there.

To determine the BIOS version of your motherboard, press [F2] to enter the BIOS setup utility during boot up, and check the BIOS version from the Main menu. This utility works in Microsoft The Flash Memory Writer utility can not be suitable for all ASRock motherboards.
